CHAPTER 14


Joel had been training on the floating island of New Olympus for 2 months and had made great progress. Joel had learned the ancient gods of the Greeks, Chinese, and even Mayans were actually based off of the gods of Zeus and his fellow Gohds who came to Earth many years ago. These Gohds had a gene that allowed them to live for long periods of time. Joel was being trained though not only to learn about the history of the Gohds but also to protect the Earth. As a Star Light Knight, Joel was to protect his world from all threats. This was a way for Joel to get stronger in order to defeat the current threat, the light runners, yet unknown to Joel there was another threat approaching, one that may be an even greater challenge than the Light Runners.

Joel got out of bed and stretched. He knew the drill for the warriors on New Olympus and he knew that he had to start training soon. He had 30 more minutes of sleep till he would have to get dressed for training but something in his gut told him that there was a danger approaching. Joel put on his Olympian armor and grabbed Kleita. Joel went outside to watch the first rays of sunlight peaking from the horizon. Joel's quarters were with a squad of Olympians and Peter who would train together, sleep together, eat together, and even fight together. Joel was being taught different strategies in both combat and even science. Even while walking out of his squad's room Joel was forming new strategies in his mind for different situations.

Joel walked into the courtyard where a lot of the training for stealth was done. If any object would seem out of place that would usually indicate that there was a trail to find the trainee who was performing their stealth operation. Joel was taught not only how to sneak around though but also how to find others. Joel learned how to increase his sense such as hearing, sight, taste, smell, and feel which allowed him to be able to find even ants crawling across the ground. Joel felt the feeling like something was in the courtyard with him so he kept on looking and listening for anything that could indicate that he was right. Joel started walking to the exit when he noticed that one of the trees near the walls had cut branches. Joel knew then that something or someone was crawling on that tree. He also noticed that the tree was right next to the wall that led to the edge of New Olympus.

Joel took a deep breath and unsheathed Kleita with lightning quick reflexes and held it up to the throat of his adversary. It was a Light Runner, a big one at that, and it was looking for blood. Joel quickly slid his blade across its neck slicing off its nervous system. Joel then noticed other Light Runners jumping from the Lights in the courtyard. Joel could tell these Light Runners were waiting for him based off of how they were all at the exact same place. Four of the big ones dashed towards Joel only to feel the tip of his blade. Joel stabbed in the head with Kleita as though Kleita was a rapier and then jumped over them. The other Light Runners tried to attack Joel from behind but Joel had intended on them doing so. As soon as they came within 3 feet of him Joel did a backflip leaving behind a kinetic bomb. The Light Runners ran right into it and felt the power of their own kinetic energy shred them apart. More Light Runners appeared from the walls and continued trying to subdue Joel. Joel blocked each of their attacks easily without breaking a sweat. Joel swung Kleita around so gracefully that not a single sound could be heard. Joel was moving to fast that none of the Light Runners could scream to their comrades for help.

Suddenly massive dragon like Light Runners climbed over the walls. There were 3 of them before Joel. Two of them an area of 14 feet and volume in their torsos, and about 50 feet in height and about 30 feet tall when on all fours. Only two of them could fit in the courtyard while the other began spitting an acid fire from its mouth. At that same time though Thodin who was clad in gold jumped into the courtyard and through a cloak to Joel. Joel quickly put it on not knowing its purpose. Joel stood back to back with Thodin ready for this battle with these Light Runners. The massive Light Runners began slamming their massive claws at the duo attempting to get through their defenses. Thodin slashed at his opponent claw with one of his swords then grabbed his gun blade and fired at the massive beast.

Joel jumped over one the Light Runner's claws and when the claw slammed on the ground Joel stabbed it with Kleita. Joel then jumped high up onto the Light Runner's head and pulled out his Olympian short sword and stabbed the Light Runner in the eyes repeatedly. The Light Runner was swing it's head around franticly in order to get Joel off. When it swung its head up Joel jumped high into the air and reached out toward's Kleita. The sword came out of the ground and into Joel's hand. Joel then dove back to the ground and on the way chopped off the massive Light Runner's head.

Thodin blocked another one of the other Light Runner's attacks. He then did a front flip over the Light Runner's hand and landed on its forearm. He then turned around and chopped the hand off. The Light Runner screamed in agony and attempted to crush Thodin with its other hand. Thodin turned towards the other hand and jumped towards it. He ripped through it like a human bullet, tearing up the creature's flesh and breaking its bones. Then in midair Thodin aimed his gun blade at the Light Runner once more and adding his own energy to the bullet, shot the Light Runner in the face. What followed was a huge explosion of heat.

Thodin landed next to Joel and faced the last of the massive Light Runners. The beast screeched and was about to attempt to set the duo ablaze when suddenly a small group of Olympian soldiers jumped on it and began slicing it into pieces. Joel took a deep breath and relaxed himself then turned towards his trainer. Thodin looked at the bodies of the Light Runners and started analyzing the debris from the battle. Thodin could tell that the Light Runners were using a new form of transportation that allowed them to go into the sky. He turned towards Joel and said
"Joel, go to your morning routines you have 4 minutes till you are late."
Joel nodded his head then ran to his Squad's training area.


WAR ROOM OF OLYMPUS

Thodin stood before the current king of Olympus, Hercules and his generals. You see while the Starlight Knights have currently been battling with the beings from the Light Realm called Light Runners, the Olympians have been focusing with their own issues such as rebuilding their home, Olympus, from a brutal attack during World War 1 and fighting the Light Runners who plagued their lands in the lands surrounding the Mesopotamian, they have also been facing other enemies around the world, enemies that have been known through legends and fables. The Gohds have sent many warriors to defeat them but only few have prevailed. Currently in Egypt there was one of such beings. His name is Wolfos lord of the hunters. Wolfos is a hybrid of wolf and man also known as a werewolf but the difference between what we know a werewolf as and what Wolfos is, is that Wolfos is always in the form of a hybrid.

Currently Wolfos had taken over Egypt in areas around the Nile and Red Sea. The Gohds did not know why he wanted this area but had a feeling that it was for a military base that belonged to another one of their kind named Phoenix. His title was "Phoenix Lord of Wind and Fire." Phoenix rebelled against the Olympians after Hercules was given the throne. Phoenix controlled a vast army of monsters such as Minotaur and a species of Mermaid people as well as a Vampire like race. Phoenix was the reason why the Olympians were battling against the Light Runners as well, he had made a deal with Equazor in order to take over the Earth several years ago.

Thodin had come to the WAR Chamber to speak with Hercules and his generals about the recent attack.
"What news have you brought us Captain Thodin?" said Hercules.
Thodin said "My king the Light Runners have found a way of reaching Olympus."
"How have they done this?" asked Hercules.
"I have a theory that they may have found a way to see through our gravity cloak sir. They must have found some way to look passed light that is bent from our gravity."
Hercules shook his head then looked at Thodin and asked "Were the intruding Light Runners dealt with?"
Thodin nodded his head "Yes sir. Trainee 2174 Joel Borders found them in the stealth room and held them off in there. I found him when to of their dragon like beasts arrived."

Hercules' eyebrows moved closer a bit "What was the trainee doing their captain?"
"According to the data logs that were recorded he had gotten up 30 minutes before the other students were supposed to. He said that he was taking a walk to wake himself up and that he had a weird feeling come over him." said Thodin.
Hercules said "Strange that he would sense their presence before they came…"
Thodin said "Sir if I may ask you something,"
"Yes?" said Hercules.
"Why are we taking so much interest in this boy? So far he seems as though he is simply an Olympian who was born somewhere else."
Hercules looked at Thodin and said
"There is something about him that is different than us Olympians. Though he is powerful like us he has wings. The closest things that would have wings are birds and the residents of Arybeth yet they are to far from this planet to survive a journey. Not only that but he has a technique that I have never seen before."
Thodin looked at his master puzzled
"That energy technique he calls the Kinetic bolt? You mean there is no such thing as being able to absorb kinetic and potential energy?
Hercules looked at Thodin and said
"What I mean to say Captain is that I do not think Joel is even of this world."


Joel was on his own sparring time. He had finished the morning training and was now onto the next part of his routine called sparring. He had no one to give him tips on combat during this time. Joel was given 1 hour to come up with different fighting strategies and new techniques that he could use. He had barely begun to lift his body off the ground with his wings which were now 5 feet long. He couldn't fly but he could hover.

Joel had learned during this training that he could absorb kinetic and potential energy that surrounded him. If an object moved he would gain kinetic energy from it though he could only absorb one part of the kinetic energy. He could either take away and object's speed in exchange for its force, or he could take away the object's force (weight) and make it go faster. Joel came up with the kinetic bomb during this training but only got to test it during the Light Runner attack. Joel was now going to see if he could absorb the kinetic energy to increase his speed. Joel closed his eyes, relaxed his body and let the energy flow through him. When Joel felt that he had enough he opened his eyes. Joel was shocked to see a green filter covering his eyes. He moved the kinetic energy to his legs and the green was gone.

"Time for test 1…" Joel said to himself. Joel began running without using the kinetic energy and was moving at his normal speed.
"Time to test this out,"
Joel used the kinetic energy to lift and lower his legs at a much faster rate. Soon Joel was running up to 50 miles an hour because of the energy. Joel slowed down and then walked to the speed scanner while catching his breath.
"Wow a good 50 miles per hour! I wasn't even using that much energy!"
Joel started testing out this new kinetic enhancement technique on his upper body,
Joel went into the test chamber next to his sparring area. Joel went to the control panel and typed into the computer: WEIGHT TESTING, 300 POUNDS.

Joel got on the floor and held his hands up still containing the kinetic energy. The weights fell onto Joel's arms and he began lifting them. Joel was able to lift more than 500 pounds but he continued working on the lower weights to be safe. Joel used a little bit of the kinetic energy and easily lifted the weights. After 15 lifts 3 times Joel lifted the weights up and said
"Computer, add 700 pounds."
The computer put more weights on Joel's arms. Joel continued lifting the weight and still had little struggle. Joel began to get curious and stopped using the kinetic energy. He was shocked to learn that he could lift that much weight on his own. Joel knew that he could lift more but didn't want to take the risk of injuring himself. Joel then sat up still holding the weights and began walking to where the weights were being contained (a vacuum air lock that made the weights weightless). Joel looked at the clock and said
"Alright, 15 minutes left till I have to go to the TVT Sparring, what else can I do for training?" Joel left the test chamber and back to the garden where he was assigned to for sparring. Joel stood in his fighting stance and began practicing different combos.

After 15 minutes the band he was wearing on his wrist began flashing. Joel knew this meant that his sparring was over and that he had to get back with his squad. When Joel met up with the squad they went to the battle chamber. This was a chamber that was designed for two purposes. The first purpose is to train the soldiers of Olympus. This helped the ones who were watching to learn new techniques. The second purpose is to give the public of the Olympian race on Earth a sport to watch. Each week two squads are put together to fight. Sometimes it would be one fighter at a time while other times it will be both squads battling at once.

Today there were going to be squad matches. It would be the Red team vs. the Blue team. Joel was on the Red team. Joel was in the squad 935. He was going up against squad 1080. Both teams had 10 minutes till they would be sent to the coliseum. Joel went to Peter and said "Well?"
Peter looked at Joel and said
"You ready for this?"
Joel knew what he meant by this. Though Peter's squadron of Starlight Knights was to train with Joel on Olympus he didn't like how they were given little contact with the Starlight Knight HQ in the United States. He had Joel on the first day of training that even though he was on Olympus that he would have to follow any orders Peter would give to him.

Joel nodded his head in response then grabbed his two weapons that he was allowed to bring. Each match each team's individual members would be allowed to pick two weapons of their choice to be included with the main weapon chosen by the game makers. Joel was not allowed to pick Kleita during these matches because none of the other trainees or soldiers had their own weapon. Joel had been told by Thodin that the Starlight Knights had a new armor and a new weapon set. The Starlight Knights had found pieces of Olympian technology and figured out how to bend gravity enough to turn their armor invisible. The Knights didn't have enough material to hide Headquarters but it still worked with the armor. They now wear cloaks that help them blend in with the environment better. They now use Rapiers instead of their normal sun swords. Scientists at Headquarters learned that the curve on the blade of a rapier can deflect the light that is emitted a Light Runner much more efficiently that a sun sword. They now also use a different kind of knife that is designed to also block swords. These new knives were much thicker than kunai.

The cloak that Thodin gave to Joel was an Olympian design that worked more efficiently that the Starlight Knight design. Joel decided that he needed to practice the new weapons that he would start to use so he picked a rapier and a knife similar to the ones the Knights used. Joel strapped the rapier onto his left side of his belt and the knife on the right side. Peter grabbed the same weapons. Suddenly the monitor in the preparation room turned on. The monitor showed the arena they would battle on. The squads were to battle in a marsh land with a few dead trees and fallen logs. Not to mention it was also raining. On the lower left corner of the screen there was a box that showed the standard weapon the Red team would be using. It was a machine gun like crossbow. Joel grabbed one from the slot along with its ammo.

There were 12 trainees in Red team and 16 in Blue team. Both squads would lose members depending on how well they did in the TVTs. Joel and the others put on the clothing for this terrain (dark drench coats with heavy metal boots) then walked up to the entrance door that led to the arena. Five seconds after the squad got together the doors opened and the squads went into the arena. Peter pulled out his crossbow and held it to his shoulder and looked out for any opponents. Joel did a back flip and landed on the side of the entrance. He then dove right into the mud creating a hole.

Four of the Red squad members walked with Peter who was going through the high grass. He looked left and right watching out for any Blue team members.
He heard something behind him and looked back.
"Where's Trey?" Peter whispered to the 3 remaining members.
They looked as well. Suddenly at that moment one of the Blue squad's fighters tried to get Peter from behind. The trainee was about to get him when Peter unsheathed his rapier and did an uppercut to his opponent, knocking him into the air. The other Red squad members shot him as he fell down knocking him out.

Another five of the Red squad was crawling through the mud when they spotted 12 of the Blue squad's fighters who were 100 meters away. The Red squad leader signaled one of his teammates to fire at the newly discovered Blue squad's remaining fighters. The teammate pulled out one of the tools he was allowed to bring, a scope, and put it on the crossbow. He set his sites on the target and was about to fire when suddenly the Red squad was ambush by the other 3 members of the Blue squad. The Red squad members that had shields tried their best to defend the group. Two of the Red team fighters went down. Only 9 of the Red team were left over against 15 of the Blue team.

Suddenly arrows began shooting from the mud at the attackers. All 3 of the ambushers were taken down when Joel jumped from underneath the mud. Behind him was another Red Squad member. The remainder of the Blue squad was prepared for the rest of the Red squad but not for Joel. They fired as many arrows as they could at him but never hit him. Joel was using his own natural speed to manipulate the mud in a way that it blocked all of the arrows. Joel then made another dive into the mud and began digging a tunnel at fast speeds underneath his adversaries using the heat from his kinetic techniques. He then went back to the tunnel entrance at began shooting at them again. Some of the members from the Blue squad tried to throw themselves behind cover only to collapse the ground beneath the entire squad. The rest of the Red squad joined with Joel and finished up the fight. Suddenly the arena began to phase back to a normal stadium. The speakers announced:
"RED SQUAD WINS!!! SQUAD 935 WINS!!!"
Joel looked around for the floating cameras as the crowd who were at the other side of Olympus cheered for the winning team as they watched the massive monitors.


Joel just finished lunch when his wrist band began flashing again. He tapped it and the words: HANGAR BAY went across the screen. Joel cleaned up his dishes then went on his way to the Hangar Bay where the Olympians stored their air craft. Joel went into the line of Olympian soldiers, most of who were not in his Squad. Joel looked down the line and counted 16 fighters including him.

Thodin and one of the officers in the complex walked into the chamber and came before the group. Thodin had his full set of armor on and began to give the gathered Squad the mission briefing.
"Olympians, today you are going on a major assignment. You shall be going to the Nile River in Egypt to escort Officer Persious here to the base of the being known as Wolfos. The helmets for your armor will have the rest of the information for this mission. This is a grade A mission. Do not take any opponents you may encounter lightly. Officer Persious must reach that base for a meeting with the one named Wolfos. You have 10 minutes to get onboard the shuttle. Remember keep secret and blend in with the locals, is that understood?"

"YES SIR!" yelled the assembled troops.
Joel got onboard with the 16 other personal on this mission. Joel pulled out a picture of Nancy from his pocket. He was able to contact her on Olympus a few times. She told him that her hair seemed to be getting darker naturally like her mom's. Joel imagined what she would look like as a brunette instead of a blonde. That comment she made to him about her mom reminded him of his own mother. Joel knew that he could go back to her or else the Light Runners may go after her. Joel then started to drowse off into sleep…

Kleita during this time was beginning to change just like Joel was, getting more powerful. When Joel is awoken from sleep, Kleita will have been changed.
